Environmental Management

Home » Environmental Management

It comprises a set of procedures aiming at the conscious and rational use of natural resources through systems that ensure environmental non-pollution, and reduction in production costs, by avoiding wastage and reusing materials that were previously discarded.

Environmental impact study (EIS)

Technical environmental study that evaluates the consequences of an enterprise for the environment, proposing conditions for its implantation and construction, generating the minimum possible impact on the local fauna and flora.

Environmental Impact Report (EIR)

Document that identifies and evaluates in an impartial and merely technical way the impacts that a given enterprise may cause in the environment, and presents mitigating and compensatory measures for its execution.

Monitoring and environmental monitoring report (MEMR)

Tool used to monitor the schedule of environmental management plans and programs of activities and/or ventures, duly environmentally licensed, that need to modify the natural environment.

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)

Preventive instrument that evaluates possible environmental impacts arising from the execution of a given enterprise, defining measures that compensate and minimize such impacts.

Environmental monitoring

It monitors enterprises that use natural resources, to evaluate possible environmental impacts caused, scaling its magnitude and evaluating if the measures to mitigate impacts are effective. When necessary, environmental monitoring studies proposes the adoption of complementary mitigating measures. Within the environmental monitoring we have:

  • Monitoring of fauna and flora: establish procedures for the management and preservation of animals and plants in activities considered to be effectivelly or potentially causing environmental impacts.
  • Water Monitoring: evaluation of water quality in rivers, lakes and dams, in both urban and rural areas.
  • Air monitoring: continuous assessment of airborne concentrations of any pollutants that may affect air quality.

Rescue of Fauna and Flora

Movement of animals and plants from the areas influenced by enterprises and activities that may cause some environmental impact, to areas contiguous to the influence range. In the case of animals, this method is applied especially for the species with limited mobility.

Basic Environmental plan (BEP)

Technical document that details the mitigating and compensatory measures of the environmental programs proposed in the EIA/MEMR, seeking to fulfill the requirements of environmental agencies, generally to obtain the Installation License (IL) for the enterprise.

Environmental Control Plan (ECP)

Environmental study presented to the enterprise, identifying the impacts generated and their magnitudes. The ECP also proposes mitigating measures, so that the activities cause less damage to the environment. It is still required to obtain the installation license.

Environmental Control Report (ECR)

Document required in the event EIS/EIR exemption. It identifies actual or potential nonconformities arising from the installation and operation of the enterprise. Thus, it guides the mitigating actions to solve the problems detected in obtaining the environmental licensing.

Forest exploitation project

Project based on conditions required by the relevant environmental agencies and laws applicable to forest exploitation (e.g., the Brazilian forest code), which guides the exploration of natural areas and presents mitigation measures to obtain environmental licensing.

Reforestation and Forestry

Project aimed at restoring degraded natural areas or areas that were not naturally forested, by which we have:

Reforestation – the implantation of forests in naturally forested areas.

Forestry – the implantation of forests in areas that were not naturally forested, for at least 50 years.
